Everything You Need to Know about Air Conditioners

The Pros and Cons of Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioners

Dual hose portable air conditioners are designed to take the hot air from the room and blow it outside while the other hose takes in air from the outside, letting the air conditioner cool it to release it into the room. Therefore one hose is called the exhaust hose and the other is called the intake hose. Dual hoses are usually placed on higher BTU portable air conditioners used for rooms of up to 500 sq ft. Before you go purchasing a dual hosed unit, you should be aware of the pros and cons.

Pros

• They tend to cool down a room faster than that of a single hose portable unit.
• Dual hose portable air conditioners work more efficiently than a single hose unit. It simultaneously takes in cooler air from outside as it releases the hot air from the room.
• It won’t create any negative pressure within the room.

Cons

• Most people purchase portable air conditioners because they do not have a window they are able to use. In order to have a dual hose unit, you have to have a functioning window. Otherwise, the hot air will be pumped right back into the room, sometime making the room even hotter than before.
• It has the potential to make more noise than that of other portable air conditioners.
• Although many of the dual hosed units have caster wheels, they aren’t as easily moved as other portable air conditioner units.

While there are just as many pros as there are cons, the pros seem to outweigh the cons. The disadvantages of dual hosed portable air conditioners are relatively simple and can be easily overlooked. Obviously, if you don’t have a window, than that could serve as a problem, but you probably wouldn’t have been looking to buy such a unit if that were the case. The noise that a dual hosed air conditioner produces isn’t much worse than any other portable unit. All portable air conditioners tend to produce more noise than that of a wall unit or even central air. Not being as easily portable is only a major concern if you have to bring the unit up or down stairs, seeing as they weigh a bit more than other units.

The pros of dual hose portable air conditioners are definitely worth considering. Your room will become cooler more quickly because of the dual hosed action. The unit will be more energy efficient and won’t create negative pressure in the room, unlike that of a single hosed air conditioner or any other portable unit. When shopping for a portable air conditioner, it a good idea to make sure you consider the pros and cons. You will also want to make sure you have a functioning window to place the dual hosed unit under. Other than that, purchasing a dual hosed unit could be in your best interest.
